Adding a pram shelter to your retail property: is it worth it?

No matter what your business is, pram and buggy shelters have a lot to offer. They are a practical, usable, and reliable investment for your business that can give a genuinely useful service to a large section of your customers.
Would they be worth it for you, however?

What is a pram shelter?

A pram shelter is, as the name implies, a structure designed to keep prams safe from the elements and secure from tampering. Parents will not always want to bring the whole pram into your store, or depending on the size of your store it might not be practical to allow them to. A pram shelter will give them somewhere to put their pram safely while they browse inside, before picking it up again when they’re ready to leave.

Does your business need one?

The simple answer is – it’s up to you. You can determine whether or not you need a pram shelter by observing what sort of customers your business attracts. Spend a few days watching your customers, and see how many of them actually have prams. Similarly, if your business is a kind of business that is likely to attract parents, such as a toy store, a grocery store, a clothes store, or similar, it might be worth investing to make sure you have those customers catered to.

You may also like to get your customers involved in the decision by asking them directly if they would find a pram shelter useful.

What are your options?

There are many different pram shelters available in a variety of configurations. Generally, however, you will find three main types of shelter on offer – and we provide them at Shelter Solutions. They are open shelters, shelters with a door, and lockable shelters.

An open shelter is ideal if you just need a basic shelter. It’s the most affordable and easy to install, and can be a good toe in the water if you’re still not sure if your business can really use a pram shelter. They will offer basic weather protection for prams.

A shelter with a door is a next step up in security and weather protection, allowing a completely enclosed shelter for customers to put prams in. The shelter is split up into individual compartments, each with its own access – they are generally larger than open shelters.

Locking shelters are the next stage up and offer individual storage compartments that are lockable, giving the maximum level of weather protection and security.

Choosing the best shelter

At Shelter Solutions, all of our pram shelters are made by us at our factory premises. This gives us granular control of the final quality and their design. We use aluminium in the construction of our shelters, which makes them lighter and much more rust-resistant than the usual steel.
